ENERGY CONSERVATION

The cost of energy is a significant part of the operating budget for our buildings. Last year, the total utility costs were approximately $500,000.

We aim to keep utility costs as low as possible to allocate funds for property maintenance and upkeep, while also minimizing rent increases. The majority of energy consumption takes place inside individual apartments. With your help and cooperation, we can maintain the standards you expect and avoid higher rent increases.

We encourage all residents to follow these simple and effective measures to save energy:

  1. Turn off lights and electrical devices when not in use, especially when leaving the unit.
  2. Do not block baseboard heaters (Forest Ridge).
  3. Keep windows closed when it’s cold outside. However, windows with water condensation should be slightly opened for air circulation.
  4. Keep the thermostat in your unit at approximately 20-22 degrees Celsius.
  5. Report any water leaks in your unit to the office immediately.

  1. Switch off lights and electrical devices when not in use.
  2. Use energy-efficient light bulbs such as LED bulbs.
  3. Install programmable thermostats to regulate temperature in your home.
  4. Seal windows and doors to prevent air leaks.
  5. Use natural light instead of artificial light during the day.
  6. Choose energy-efficient appliances when purchasing new ones.
  7. Wash clothes in cold water instead of hot water.
  8. Use a clothesline or drying rack instead of a clothes dryer.
  9. Unplug devices when they are not in use.
  10. Use a power strip to switch off multiple devices at once.
  11. Clean or replace air filters in your HVAC system regularly.
  12. Use a microwave or toaster oven instead of a conventional oven.
  13. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
  14. Plant trees or install shading devices to reduce direct sunlight on your home.
  15. Use public transportation, carpool or bike instead of driving alone.
